The Challenge: Trend Benders
Pick your favourite Summer or Fall 2012 trend and make it work for you, whether it's going all-out, incorporating it into a professional outfit or using it in moderation. For example - how would you bend this neon brights trend into something in sync with your personal style? Challenge yourself - you might even take something you think would never work on you and get creative!
For this challenge, I decided to go with Burgundy (which seemed to photograph red but is a deeper, darker shade in real life) and Leopard. When burgundy hit the mags as fall's "it" color, I was a little puzzled on how to mix it with non-neutral items. So what did I do? I went for a work-appropriate look and made a burgundy sheath dress (inspired by the stylish P of Phiphis' Blog) paired with leopard (inspired by Ping's awesome burgundy incorporation post) & neutral accessories.

If burgundy is the IT color this fall, burgundy with leopard has got to be the IT pairing. I adore this combo. Great job, S!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Your DIY burgundy dress looks way better than the banana republic sheath dress. http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=70019&vid=3&pid=917379 I would definitely buy your over the banana republic. The dress looks amazing on you. Another fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteThis burgundy dress looks perfect on you! Very flattering especially with the slight cowl neckline and nipped in waistline.
ReplyDeleteWhat a classy combination, SPG! I have to second Cee by saying that you took the IT colors for the season and turned them into a very wearable, very approachable ensemble. I could never wear this to work (a lab has its perks but it doesn't allow room for skirts or shorts >:( ) but other ladies surely will find excellent inspiration in this. This could also be a nice date outfit because the draping in the neck is just the kind of elegant a nice restaurant requires :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful dress. It's so classy and elegant. Love it. You did a great job!
