Petite Fashion Challenge #4: Holiday Party

This month's Petite Fashion Challenge comes from the lovely Curls and Pearls!

The challenge:
Create a holiday party look using festive colours and/or holiday pieces without looking like a greeting card.  This could be your opportunity to dust off that reindeer sweater you might have collecting dust in the back of your closet and turn it into something chic...hmmm?

I wanted to do something fashionable and sparkly with a splash of red or green but after trying on MANY different things, nothing just seemed to look right.  So ultimately I am wearing something I will actually wear to a holiday party.  A simple, slim dress with floral neckline detailing in a rich cranberry color accented with gold jewelry.

So did I take the easy way out or do you think this works?  ;)

Dress: Antonio Melani, Sz 0
Gold Fringe Necklace: old, I think BR
Wedges: Gucci

  2. This is the second cranberry themed outfit I've seen and it's making me lust after a cranberry piece of my own, lol! I took the easy way out too with a dress and tights, but if it's wearable then it totally works. I don't see a label or brand next to the dress...is it DIY?

  3. LOVE it, the color looks like wine color in pictures which is a more understated alternative to christmas red. I like the subtle details, very elegant!

  4. C&P - Thanks doll!

PAG - Whoops! I had to go back and edit that back in. This dress is Antonio Melani from Dillards :)

  5. I love how this is just a simple dress with minimal accessories! Very classy. I love how the belt cinches the dress at the waist. : )

  6. I know EXACTLY what you mean about nothing fitting right!! Man, that is so frustrating! I really like this dress though - yes, it's simple but that is sometimes the best thing about it :) I love cranberry with gold too! Nice job!

  7. I love the cranberry color. I don't think I have anything in that color. I did go back to DSW and bought a pair of Gucci shoes for myself after seeing your post last week. I am so excited!

  8. Wonderful color! I love wine red. It goes with everything. =)

The silhouette of that dress is very chic. Love it!

  10. If you took the easy way out, then so did I lol! Does the dress have an ombre effect or is that from the photos? Either way, I love it and you look great! The matching wedges are a nice touch too. And I'm glad you decided to keep them to incorporate into your wardrobe :)

  11. Elle - Thanks so much! I don't think I can pull off a Christmas red so the cranberry is a good compromise :)

TLDP - Thank you! I love that it came with a belt :)

Erin - Yes, very frustrating! I felt like I had all of these ideas but none worked :( Thanks for checking out my post and commenting!

Sydney - I think you would look spectacular in cranberry! Oooh excited to see your new shoes!!

Kelly and N - Thanks so much! I was very drawn to the cranberry color too :)

Cee - Thank you for the kind words! The color is actually a solid - I'm not sure where that shadow comes from. I need better lighting LOL!

  12. I love the color of your dress, it's winter-like without being so red. Personally, I wouldn't match my shoes with the dress and opt for black pumps, but I think it looks fine on you! =)

The challenge was to pick an outfit you'd wear to a holiday party, so finding one that you'd actually put on for an event...that's more realistic! Great job!

  15. I like the cranberry color better than bright red. I think this looks really sophisticated, and I love how you went with a simple dress with simple accessories. I think it's hard to not look like an ornament when you are small you avoided that and instead look very elegant.

  16. that color really suits your skin-tone and is perfect for the holidays! I like that you can accent the outfit with gold jewelry. For some reason, I'm having a hard time finding outfits that can match gold jewelry. Been stuck on silver forever! I also love Antonio Melani dresses from Dillard's, but it's always like a hit or miss in fitting for me in their size 0. This one looks like it fits you well :)

  17. Cranberry is such a festive color for the holidays and it's so under used. Well done for looking festive without screaming Christmas. I went with gold jewelry too for my outfit but I went the east route with black: kudos for stepping out of the box!

  19. I'm loving the cranberry/burgundy/wine color for the holidays too. While true red is a bit too loud for everyday wear, I think this color is understated but still nice. You look very elegant!

  20. Yes...definitely works! I love the neckline, and the necklace you chose! I agree with Jean...wanting cranberry colors now! :)

  21. Stylepint - Thank you! After seeing all the PFC entries, I wish that I had jazzed it up a little more. Realistic is practical but not as exciting LOL :)

Em - Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

Kileen - Thank you! The other good thing about this dress is that it masks the big meal that usually comes along with holiday parties too :D

Kerry - LOL, I'm glad I don't look like an ornament. I'm still in awe of your PFC creation! Will you be wearing it out anywhere? NYE party?

Olyvia - My go-to jewelry color is still silver but it seems like they make more gold jewelry than silver nowadays. Thus my own collection is now about 50:50. They have cute dresses at Dillard's! I really love their New Year's sale where everything is additional 50% off!

Sisters Sincere - Thank you for reading my little blog and commenting! I just finished going to your entry and forgot to mention how much I loved your nails!

Really Petite - Thanks so much!

PXXS - Aww, thank you! I liked your ensemble much better ;)

Michelle - I think you would love spectacular in a cranberry color! :)
