To do this, I simply folded the dress in half (front center on one side and back center on other), cut out the "S" shape, and then hand-sewed the hem.
DIY Maternity Dress to Fishtail Dress
Speaking of maternity, I got to meet the lovely and glowing Sydney from PetiteLittleGirl (now transitioning to Sydney's Fashion Diary) last week. I've never had the pleasure of meeting another blogger before so this was absolutely delightful. My toddler son, in particular, had fun and kept talking afterwards about the "pretty girl at lunch" for the rest of the day. What a little flirt! :)
Would you re-wear your maternity garb?
On a personal note, Hubby and I celebrate 6 years of marriage today! Adding our years of dating, that means we've been together for 11 years now <3 <3 If we had known 6 years ago that we'd be relaxing on the couch with our 2 children in a toy-strewn house, I think our happy day would have been even happier :)
You did a great job transforming the dress into a fishtail style...hi-lo hem and paisley print...so perfect for this summer! And congrats on your anniversary! You got a beautiful family! Your son is so cute, flirting with Sydney, haha!
ReplyDeleteSeems like a very simple way of altering old items to fit current trends. Love it! Happy anniversary to you & the hubby!! Olyvia is right - you have a beautiful family. <3

A Petite Treat
Wow.. Not only did you completely transform the dress, you even made it to a piece that is hot this season! The hi-low dress. I'd be so thrilled if I could even just sew a hanky.
ReplyDeleteI would totally re-wear my maternity clothes if only I had sewing skills. There would be a lot of trimming as I nearly gained 47lbs that time!
What a brilliant idea! I just wish I have your skills though. I've actually been asking around town and finally found a sewing school. That's my next project - to learn to do simple things like hemming and fixing a button. It'll be a while before I can do what you just did. Utterly brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteIt was an absolute pleasure to meet you and your family last week. Thank you for letting me try on your gorgeous Hermes bracelet =) It's on my wishlist now! That boy of yours is beyond adorable <3 I love his hair style. Hopefully, we'll get to meet again before you move away. Love how you transformed the dress. I wish I have half of your talent.
ReplyDeletehappy happy 6th anniversary to you and your husband! i wish you two many many more happy years together! :D
ReplyDeletep.s. i think it's cool if you can re-wear maternity clothes, especially if it's as pretty as your dress!

ReplyDeletecongrats on your anniversary! you look gorgeous on your wedding day. :)
what a great way to turn a maternity dress into something that is trendy and wearable. i love all the various names for this dress... mullet, fishtail... asymmetrical... i have to use the fishtail title on my future post. :) you did an amazing job. looks fabulous, s. :)
Wow, wow great job! And Happy anniversary! Your wedding picture is gorgeous! We've been married the same length of time! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool re-fashioning of a maternity dress! I have several pieces that I bought as maternity wear and still wear b/c they're "normal" pieces. Also, keeps everyone guessing. Pregnant? Not pregnant? Hehe. How cute is your little guy keep talking about pretty lady!!! Such a flirt! And congrats on 6 years married! You guys looked so cute at the reception! Did you make your own dress??
ReplyDeleteCongratulations & happy anniversary! Great upcycle! Most of my friends have told me they are so sick of their maternity wear by the time they give birth but you could even buy a great dress at Salvation Army and do something similar (my BF's niece does that type of thing all the time, I'm pretty sure the two of you would get along fabulously).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 6 years of marriage! Time flies by so quickly doesn't it. I never thought kids could bring so much joy.
