To Sew a DIY Ruffled Maxi Dress

I saw this gorgeous, super-soft melon colored jersey fabric at Hancock Fabrics and knew it would be perfect for a maxi dress.  To make it different from all my other maxis, I decided to add 2 tiers of ruffles to the top.  The good thing about this dress is that it can easily be belted at the waist post-pregnancy and still be wearable afterwards.

Which necklace looks better with this color of dress: turquoise or pearls?  I like the contrast of the turquoise but the pearls with the floral pin looks nice too so I'm undecided.

  2. What a gorgeous color! I really like it. The color is very fresh and summery. Personally, I like the pearl necklace with this dress better. Great job!

  3. Both give off different vibes, so I can't pick my favorite. I do wish that you had chosen to use a different colored flower -- but perhaps this was done on purpose? :)

  4. I prefer the one with the pearls, but I like them both!

  5. I think the bib necklace obscures the ruffles. My vote is for the pearl. Nice job!!!

  7. You did such a great job on this...it looks like something straight from the store. I prefer the turquoise for hot summer days and pearls maybe for fancier events after dusk : )

Oooh, you know, before, I looked forward to seeing you wear petite clothes while you're pregnant (and i still am), but now I'm anxious to see you wear your maternity clothes post pregnancy. You can show us how it can be done!

  10. You always manage to out-do yourself with each DIY! I love this color and the way the dress drapes. Plus, your baby bump is sooo cute! Congrats by the way! :) I think I like the look of the pearls more, cuz you get to wear the flower pin next to it!

i love the orange with the turquoise because i think it's SOO of the moment right now.. who knows.. next spring/summer it might seem out of date to combo two bold colors like that!! plus i just think that combo is so pretty!!

  13. Dibs - Thanks for dropping by and commenting! Let me know how it turns out!

Sydney - Thanks so much! I love how bright the color is :)

Cee - Yep! I was torn between doing a cascading floral detail on the dress or ruffles so this was my way of compromising with myself :D

Jessy - Thanks for weighing in!

Gigiofca - Thank you! I didn't even think about the bib necklace covering the ruffles - thanks for pointing that out!

Ping - Aww, thank so much! I've made so many plain maxis that I knew I had to start doing some embellished ones :)

Jean - Thanks for your kind words and suggestion! I think I'll do that - it's a great way to incorporate both versions :)

Annie - Thanks so much! Now I have to think up some other types of embellishments bc my maxi wearing days are only beginning LOL.

AubreyOhDang - This blog will definitely document post-maternity wear! I love that I can share this (as long as you guys care) :)

LePetiteLemon - Aw, you are so sweet - thank you so much!

Francesca - Thank you! Not nosy at all! I am due October 1st :)

Lisa - You are too kind! But I am definitely not at Etsy clothes-selling level yet - maybe one day :) Thank you for weighing in on the necklace! I do like the 2 colors together and think I'll wear it this way during day like Jean suggested.
