The challenge:
Who is your celeb style icon? Pick an outfit from your favorite celeb and show us how to recreate that look for less. Usually, your style icon reflects your personal style and also your body type. In this challenge, your style icon doesn’t have to be a petite.
My inspiration came from Charlize Theron. I loved her ease and elegance in this look and decided to try to recreate it. The picture I initially found of her cut off her legs so I improvised on the footwear. It wasn't until later (after I took all the pics) that I found out she was wearing Gray Cardi Boots (which I also have - excuse the dated expression, but DOH!). Oh well! :P
Black Blazer: Banana Republic, Sz 2
Top: Old Navy Striped Boat Neck Tee, XS
Jeans: Gap Always Skinny Cropped Jeans, Dark Wash, Sz 4 Tall (explanation below)
Black Leather Boots: Born
Bag: Balenciaga Twiggy, Anthracite
I wanted to keep the outfit pretty close so I even have a scarf peeping out of my Bal bag like Charlize's - yes, I'm THAT anal LOL. Her bag is Balenciaga Weekender in Black with covered hardware whereas mine is a Balenciaga Twiggy in Anthracite with regular hardware. So I wouldn't necessarily say the bag is part of the "look for less" portion unless you count that the smaller Twiggy is less expensive than her large Weekender, but everything else is! :) This is my first posting with accessories and I have to say that it lent a certain feeling of completeness to the photo.
So why did I get jeans in Tall? These jeans were actual crops (mid-calf, rather than ankle - see stock photo below) and I really wanted them to be regular jeans rather than short ones. So I took a gamble and ordered Tall - they are the perfect length. And they were on sale for $29.99 with 30% off! The only bad thing about them is that they seem much darker than pictured, but that's not a huge deal because I love the fit so much. Thanks PAG and Curls-and-Pearls for re-introducing me to Gap denim!! :)
So cute, I love Charlize's look and you definitely captured the essence of her style. And what a great deal on those Gap jeans!!! And I agree that the bag completes the look. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat look, that black blazer seems to be a classic staple for all celebs, models, etc. Charlize is always so polished and you did a fabulous job with the look.
ReplyDeleteOooh those jeans look amazing on you!! You did so great with this look - jealous of the bag!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCharlize dresses so simply but classic. I love how you recreated her look, even down to the scarf peeking out of the bag =)
ReplyDeleteGreat recreation! Your outfit is spot-on!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's spot on, esp with the little scarf peeking. That's so funny that you actually have the boots that she was really wearing! I love your Bal bag : )

You look great! I love the thicker stripe shirt underneath your blazer, it gives a bit more accent to your outfit. The handkerchief on your purse is such a sweet touch.
ReplyDeleteI loove your Balenciaga! You did an amazing job with this outfit, it looks just like hers! Very chic and effortless.
ReplyDeleteBy effortless I mean effortless-looking as if you could just throw it on and look fab, not as though you didn't put any effort into it :) just had to clarify! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat look! I love simple but chic outfits like these... those boots are so nice too! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Charlize too! I love the look and am crazy for the Balancegia bag!!

Coveting your Balenciaga bag. :) And that's clever with the tall crop jeans - I'll keep that in mind when shopping for jeans. Awesome job at the recreation!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I also love that nautical striped shirt underneath and how it is kind of boat-neck like!
ReplyDeleteGreat deal on the jeans! I love the stripes with the blazer!! You put together such a classic outfit!
ReplyDeleteYour boots are great! I should give Born shoes a try again! They are so comfy for work!
and now you sold me on trying the gap jeans line :) I have never thought of buying jeans from them. After seeing curls and purls' skinny crops in the challenge and yours, I think I'm totally going on a shopping spree this weekend and trying out their jeans. (oh, and i quite like the scarf hanging out the bag. lol)
ReplyDeleteElle, C&P, AN, PAG, TLDP, PXXS, Callandra, PLG, Kileen, Em, Curvy Petite - Thanks ladies! Gap is having additional 40% off sale items in store now if you want to get yourself a pair! This is my favorite handbag - I love the smooshy leather :)

TinyInTexas - LOL, you are too funny and sweet!
Michelle - Thanks! You should definitely give Born another try! I love how comfy their shoes are!
Olyvia - You should totally try Gap! I was hesitant too until I saw all the reviews from the petite community. Do a post on your shopping spree! :)
Just picked up an Old Navy boatneck tee today in. Love the relaxed fit! I decided on the pink and it reminds me so much of something that could be picked up at a J. Crew. After some deliberating, I'm going to pair the roomy shirt (went a size up) with my J. Crew black pixie pants and Tory Burch black revas or tan boots when it gets colder! I am so impressed with your Charlize Theron look btw!
ReplyDeleteAmy - I absolutely love the ON boatneck tee! I feel like it's one of those classic staples that just can't go wrong :) Your outfit sounds so cute! Thanks for reading and commenting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these on my question on the Alterations Needed forum! This challenge was from before I discovered the PFC so I missed them the first time around.
ReplyDeleteLove your header pic! I'm a new follower so I can check out your DIY projects especially!
