Tweed + Corduroy and RM MAC Review

Rummaging through my closet always unearths something interesting - today's find are some super old, camel colored cords from my Abercrombie & Fitch days back in college.  From these cords, I've come to the conclusion that the most flattering pants for me are straight legged with either a side slit (like these) or a slight flare.  I seem to look dowdy or unnatural in other types.  Now to find more pants like these cords!  If you know of any, please let me know :)

Bonus conclusion today?  I found that if I look down in photos, you can't tell if my makeup is inexpertly applied ;)

Jacket: The Limited Blue Tweed One Button Jacket, XS (see it on Elle here)
Top:  J. Crew Darla Ruffle Cami, Sz 0
Pants:  Abercrombie & Fitch Corduroy (very old)
Shoes:  Gucci d'Orsay Pumps, Camel
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Clutch (MAC), Stone

My new favorite, go-to bag is this RM MAC.  I've long been a fan of RM, but had only owned Nikki hobos and one ill-fated Morning After Bag.  When I saw Elaine post on the versatility of the strap and how to carry it, I put it on my wishlist.  I love crossbody bags but often lament on how small they are.  This one is the perfect size for me.  It will fit my long wallet, wristlet, phone and more (I carry a separate diaper bag often stowed in the stroller if you're wondering where all the kiddo stuff goes).  The only negative?  The chain strap is pretty heavy but seems to be of good quality rather than lightweight, cheapo chains.

See MACs also on Kileen and Annie.

What are your go-to bags?

  8. those cords do look good on you! I like the whole outfit including your hair! Not sure if it's the posing or the outfit, but you look super tall! Hope you find more pants in that style! I've yet to figure out what style of pants look good on me!

    1. Thanks Olyvia! I think the combo of the pose, pants and tall hair all add into the illusion of looking longer :) I think bootcut / flare are supposed to be universally flattering but because my legs are short, the knees in most aren't where they are supposed to be so I wind up looking stout. Your legs look longer so maybe give bootcut a shot?

  12. How did you do your hair? It looks so nice! The Mac looks great on you...still oversized but I think because you are taller and have longer legs- it just looks nicer. I'm starting to second guess my purchase...lol

    1. Hi Jasmine! Thank you! Crossbody bags are my favorite! Something a little smaller (and also one of my loves) is the LV Pochette Bosphore http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bloghandbag.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/14.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bloghandbag.com/louis-vuitton-handbag/super-star-louis-vuitton-handbag-collection.html&h=513&w=360&sz=47&tbnid=M0P56TLwLenUsM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=63&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpochette%2Bbosphore%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=pochette+bosphore&docid=fZ4m4Trw6iuKpM&sa=X&ei=KaEZT8vvBMLs0gHE3qGrCw&ved=0CDUQ9QEwAg&dur=137

    1. LOL, I made that sound way too dramatic! I originally purchased a MAB with a gold-crackle bottom. I just couldn't bear to use it because the bottom was so gorgeous and I didn't want it to get marred. I wound up selling it in the end. I firmly believe all bags should be used but sometimes I don't take my own advice. :P

  16. My go to bag is the tylie malibu runaway bay I recently purchased. It's very heavy with all the metallic pyramid studs, but the bag is not heavily structured so you can fit a little or a lot in it. This is a great bag, I've yet to buy anything from RM, she's got some great bags and I can't believe she's my age...31 running a handbag empire. I gotta get on that :)

  17. You look great! Love the cords :) I have the RM Mac too and I love it! Such a great size and comes in so many colors, I love yours!

  18. This inspires me to do a closet inventory - I'd love to discover ancient treasures (they're not all good though; I recently found old cowboy pants from 7th grade... donate!).

I love this whole look - the cords are very flattering on you and the blouse and shoes work nicely in this earthy look. I've always liked RM but I'm not a bag person at all. I have three bags I use and that's more than plenty for me.

  19. Oh man I missed this post! I love my MAC and the colour of yours is amazing! I can fit quite a bit into it too and I have the same "complaint" as you - I love the look and the quality of the chain but it adds so much weight to my "lightweight" bag! I love your outfit and your topknot!

  20. Your legs look super long in those pants! And wow to your hair! That's so much hair!! :D Good to know that in the future, I will still have use for my small cross-body bags that I have a ton of! :) I was afraid I'd have to get rid of all my too-small bags to make way for baby stuff! =P
