Cozy Layers and a Reveal

This OOTD was inspired by the desire to be warm and comfortable in 20 degree weather.  :)  I couldn't think of anything warmer / cozier than layering a thick-knit vest over a cowl neck sweater.  I'm also playing with brown and black (something I used to think was a giant no-no).  What do you think?  Yay or nay?

Sweater:  Banana Republic Cowlneck Sweater, Sm (buy here)
Vest: Thick Knit Vest (old, random from Dillard's)
Leggings:  Black leggings (random from Macy's)
Boots:  UGG Highkoo (buy here)
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff Nikki
Necklace: F21
Dangly Earrings: Banana Republic

I'm wearing the earrings on the right side.  I love the drama of them!

And the reveal?  A picture with my head intact and unobscured by giant sunglasses.  I am a bespectacled dork - clueless in the ways of makeup and how to "pose" my face.  There will still be many more headless shots in the future because of this :)

  1. It's fantastic to finally see you! You know, no one ever notices how awkward you may *think* you look unless you go the length of pointing it out. In other words, please don't black out your face anymore! You've got such an attractive one - why hide it?

I bought UGG Highkoo last year but returned them because they had a rip in them (Nordstrom Rack mega sale... cheap or not I won't pay for damaged merchandise). This outfit brought back the regret I felt standing in line to give up these beauties :( You look fantastic here, SPG!

  2. OMG! Welcome to the "headed" blogging world, SPG! There's nothing dorky about glasses when paired with a beautiful face + chic outfit. Facial expressions will come naturally with time : )

  3. ahhhhh, you have a head!!! i love brown and black together, actually. playing with the different shades is so fun. i still dont know what do do in pics. i always take my glasses off because they make funny glare.

  4. Your face is beautiful. I want to see more of it:) Love the layering with the vest. That's one thing I am still trying to master, layering. Getting good inspirations though.

  5. I immediately clicked on this post when I saw your "revewl" in my reader. You don't look dorky at all! Nothing wrong with glasses at all. ; ) Love that vest on you!

  6. I say yay for layering and showing that lovely face!

  7. ooo, cute! i'm not really a fan of turtle necks but you make it work. i love the whole outfit.

  8. You know when I saw the title reveal I guessed that you would be showing your face :) Love your OOTD and you look beautiful :) look forward to more non headless shots!! :)

  9. Finally I get to see your face, and such a beautiful one at that! For my first outfit post I also wore my dorky glasses as well. It will get more natural in time I am sure ;) Hope you are having a nice weekend my dear and I absolutely love this casual and chic outfit on you, esp. the vest!

  10. ahhh so nice to see your face! i talk to my clients all the time on the phone and then i'll finally get to meet them and it's just so nice to put a face to a this case its a face to that body. lol!

  11. OMG!!! I am so excited for this post!! You are gorgeous...keep your head intact in the future! Those glasses are awesome!

And that it! This is actually one of my favorite outfits I have seen on you! I could be swayed by the full body/face shot...but I do love everything!

  12. Definitely not a dork! You are lovely and it's nice to see all of you :)

  13. Yay, it's so nice to your face. You're beautiful. Not dorky at all. You look very chic with the glasses.

  14. Yay! We finally get to see you!! Don't worry, I don't know how to pose my face either, and am also clueless in the way of makeup.

Nice to finally see the stylish mamma behind the blog. =)

  15. This is definitely a yay! You looked so cozy. By the way, I don't think you looked clueless at all! :)

P.S. I love 'The Secret Circle'! I'm totally obsess with it haha.

    Lots of love, B

  16. You have a beautiful face so don't hide it! i love that crochet vest and the whole outfit is very nice!!!

  17. Yay your head!! LOL! You are gorgeous! I know how you feel, do you remember way back when I cut my head off too? Then I just got lazy and also, how could I do beauty reviews without showing my face? LOL!

I love this casual outfit, can I request more pictures of the purse? I've been on an RM kick lately (still only have 1 but I keep being drawn to RM bags!)

  18. Oh I love your outfit! Super cute...your vest and boots! wow! just found your it! Will be following. Please stop by and say hi at my site!
    XO Carrie

  19. What a lovely surprise! :D I hadn't checked my favorite blogs for a couple of months, and then you reveal your full head! Hopefully we'll be seeing more of your lovely face in the future (although, I'm one to speak!! Ahahahaha) :P I love your outfit! It's totally something I would wear!

  20. Hello Lovely,

Just want to wish you an ever sparkling New Year. Love your blog btw =)

    -Mia xoxo

  21. AND.....finally we OFFICIALLY meet! You my friend are gorgeous! Why have you been in hiding all this time? I also have that sweater from BR acquired from the uber sale although I may return it as it is quite itchy.....

  22. Yay for the head reveal, SPG! You don't look dorky and I wear glasses (and contacts) as well! I actually really like pairing brown and black together...I think you have proved it's not true that they don't go together too. Keep showing your pretty face in future posts please!

  23. SPG!! It's so wonderful to see you (for real, without sunglasses) this time! Wanna share some of that braveness with me? ;)

Always a yay to blacks and browns. Blacks go with everything in my book :)

  24. YAY! So nice to see your face!!! Love your cozy outfit and accessories. I don't think you look like a dork AT ALL. I love your glasses and think they look perfect on you. Do they have nose guards?

  25. SPG - You are so pretty! I wear glasses too. :)

  26. You look really great with glasses! Not a dork at all! You look pretty, smart, talented, and chic! I also resorted back to headless photos just because it is hard to work to pose with facial expressions and of course my paranoia that someone I know might recognize me from google images and embarrass me, haha!

  27. Anna - Thank you! LOL, I won't go to such an effort to hide my face anymore but there will probably be quite a few headless pics in the future. I would have returned ripped boots too! I can stand a scuff or two but not outright damage like that.

Jean - LOL about "headed" blogging! You are too kind - thank you!

Amber - Hehe, really had you going on being headless, eh? ;) I like your photos a lot actually - you seem like a natural!

Patience - Thank you so much! I'm trying more and more with layering too - seems so much more fun than wearing things on their own :)

Jessy - Thank you! You'll see more of the glasses in the future :)

L Ng - Thank you for your kind comment!! :)

Carrie - Thank you! I have such a weakness for cowl necks - not sure why :)

Kat - Good guess! Thank you so much! :)

Thu - Aw shucks - thank you for being so sweet :) Haha, I'm pretty awkward, the learning curve will be lonnnnnnng.

Ping - Hehe, I actually think the same thing about bloggers who reveal their face :)

Michelle - Thanks so much - I'm so flattered! I thought of you when I wore the vest :)

    Newpetite - Aw, thank you!!

  28. R.L. / Ying - Thanks so much! Re: being a dork, you haven't met me yet LOL :D

Kelly - I think you always look beautiful in your photos! I would have never guessed that you were unsure of your facial expressions.

Bree - Thank you! It was definitely cozy and so comfortable!

Francesca - Thank you for your sweet comment! :)

Elaine - Thank you!! Funny thing is that I got so excited when you and Liane revealed your heads but it still took me quite a while to feel ok about it :)

Aubrey - Right back 'atcha :)

Carrie - Thank you! Will do :)

LePetiteLemon - Thank you! It took me a very long time before I felt like I could show my face. The important thing is feeling comfortable about it :)

Mia - Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!

Bessie - Aw, you are too kind! Thank you! I actually bought 4 colors of this sweater because I love the fit and the draping of the cowl. I haven't noticed the itch but possibly because I wear a cami underneath?

Karen - Thank you! I liked the black and brown together too - definitely something I'll be playing around with more.

Cee - Thank you! I was looking through my post photos and figured this one wasn't too bad LOL. Definitely not an act of bravery! I'm sure you'll reveal once you feel comfortable :)

Annie - Thank you! This pair doesn't have nose guards so they have a tendency to slide down quite a bit. I have another pair with nose guards that I wear to work / go out but they are much heavier and tend to make me ache after a while.

Jen - Thank you - you are so sweet! Yay for more gals with glasses! :)

Olyvia - Thank you! I loved your full face shots - you are so pretty! Uh oh, I did not think about google images! Hmm, may have to rethink this full face thing LOL. :D And yes on the facial expressions! I just never look "natural" - it seems worse when I smile because it looks so forced when I'm not smiling / laughing at something in real life.

  29. You're looking awesome! You look fine. I try not to be hypercritical when I'm reading blogs. I come to spend a little time, not to judge. Black and brown? A total 'do'!

  30. you have a gorgeous face! beautiful skin and i am so happy to finally see a head to toe photo. :) you have nice proportions and i think you are stunning. :)

great outfit, btw. the vest goes so well with the boots and great color-coordination. :)

I'm the type of gal who gets giddy when I receive mail - it's no different with comments! I really appreciate the feedback and love hearing from you :)
