J. Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Maraschino Cherry, Sz 0, $188 (L)
H&M Blazer, Sz 6, $35 (R)
I'm wearing the same shirt underneath just so the comparison is as fair as possible :) As you can tell, they both have a similar silhouette - both are cropped and slim-fitting.
The J. Crew blazer obviously is of better quality with thicker fabric, more structure, 2-button closure and cuff buttons. The gold buttons are beautiful and I feel like this blazer will stand the test of time.
The H&M one features a single-button closure, a brighter red color and a stretchy jersey material. The lining at the cuff keeps popping out because the jersey has so little structure. As far as fit goes, the H&M at size 6 is smaller in the torso than the J. Crew at size 0. This gives me further motivation to lose the baby weight!
When asking myself what I really want, I find that the answer is quite simple - I just want a red, fitted blazer. I'm not sure that I need one as a closet staple so I don't mind sacrificing quality in this case. Having said that, the H&M blazer is a keeper. I'm planning on switching out the button for a pretty gold one.
Which would you choose?

hmmm decisions decisions... im leaning more towards the J Crew one but the price difference is steep.. so if its not going to be a closet staple I will go for the H&M :)

Thanks for weighing in! If I planned to keep it as a classic, I would definitely go for J. Crew :)
DeleteI actually like the look of the H&M model. As you say, it is probably not worth the investment for the J Crew model, but with a new button I think it will be a fun piece with a limited life span.
ReplyDeleteI agree - the H&M will definitely have a limited life span - thankfully that's all I need :) Thanks for your input!
DeleteI like the H&M one! both for the price and the better fitted torso :-) Glad you found the one you were looking for..
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad the search is over :)
Deleteomg i can't believe the hm 6 is smaller than the jcrew 0! ridiculous! i say keep the h&m one because the fit is great and so is the price. i agree with your choice in terms of switching out the button.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy?? H&M is the first store that I still have to go up a size in. Good for petites, bad for ego LOL.
DeleteDefinitely the H&M one. I like the single button and I think it's a great idea changing it into a gold one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessy! Now to find the perfect button :D
DeleteIf you put a gold button on the H&M one (and maybe on the sleeves too), it would be the perfect dup to the J.Crew one and better! I would definitely keep the H&M one instead of the J.crew for the better price, fit, and gives the same effect!
ReplyDeleteThanks Olyvia! I'll take a look at the sleeves again - I hadn't even thought of that!
DeleteThe H&M is good for the price. I like the idea of changing the button to a gold one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ying! It's definitely a good price and I think it will do the trick to satisfy my red blazer need :)
DeleteSo stylish.

Thanks for visiting and commenting :)
DeleteI like the color of Jcrew more, but considering the price and the fact you want a red blazer, I think H&M is a keeper.
ReplyDeleteThe J. Crew color is definitely more classic but I am drawn to this reddish orange hue that the H&M one has. It's more casual / fun :)
DeleteI like the two buttons on the J CRew, it makes the blazer more fitted and more flattering on your petite body.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input! J. Crew is definitely better but I'm just glad the H&M one is a reasonable facsimile. :)
DeleteI like the idea of changing the button to a gold one. Although, I still like the J.Crew one better (just because I am not a fan of a single-button closure blazer)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sydney :) I like having 2 buttons as well just because I want more of such a pretty detail. From the pictures, it seems like the single-button closure gives more of an illusion of a small waist so that's a positive!
DeleteI like the H&M one better. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's definitely a good deal :)
DeleteI'd go with the J.Crew one. A quality blazer will last a lifetime and is worth the investment. xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input! J. Crew is definitely better but I'm just glad the H&M one is a reasonable facsimile. :)
Deletei like the color and the fit of the blazer from jcrew, but knowing myself, i'm probably gonna go for the more affordable one, haha! ;)

LOL - thanks Mimi!
DeleteI prefer the jcrew one! It looks flattering on you than the H&M, plus it has gold button rather than the plastic black button.

Thanks for the input! J. Crew is definitely better but I'm just glad the H&M one is a reasonable facsimile. I'll definitely be changing out the button :)
DeleteBoth look cute on you. But for blazer, I'd rather go for a better quality one as you will wear more in the years to come.

Thanks for the input! J. Crew is definitely better but I'm just glad the H&M one is a reasonable facsimile especially since I don't plan to wear it long-term. :)
DeleteThis is really tough! The H&M one is quite tempting for the price. Is it me or does the H&M drape better in the front? Or it could be the way you are standing- happens to me too when we put our arms on our hips for photos.
ReplyDeleteI say H&M because I can't see you spending that much for a J.Crew blazer : )
Thanks Annie :) If I were going the J. Crew route, I'd definitely wait for a sale! Hmm, not sure about drape, I'll have to try it on again to see.
Deletewow, they both look great on you! j.crew schoolboy blazer is a bit pricey, but i think the style is just classic and the fit is amazing. the h&m version is totally worth getting because it fits you so well, and the price is fabulous! i'm torn... i can't choose, because i already have the schoolboy version, and love it.... i might have to try out the h&m myself soon. :)
ReplyDeletehope the little ones are well. :)

Thanks Jasmine! I picked up a Schoolboy Blazer last summer and really love it. The style and fit are very nice and I'd definitely purchase another but my inner deal hunter hates to pay regular price for anything :P The kiddos are doing well! Baby E is in growth spurt mode so a little more cranky than normal but it will pass :) Hope your children are doing well with the move!
DeleteOoo this is tough! I'd have to see the front side and back to give you my 100% best opinion but with the 1 on 1 picture I think the H&M fits you extremely well. I just discovered my red blazer in my closet, forgot I had one, it's Emmanuel Ungaro...I think I bought 12 years ago on super sale at Saks year end clearance!
ReplyDeleteI love finding things in the closet! The railing on side of our closet broke this past weekend so we put in a new double rack system and I've been finding all kinds of stuff. I really need to do a better job of knowing what I have. It's such a nice surprise though to find a little treasure upon digging :)
DeleteDefinitely HM! I have been eyeing colorful blazer lately! and definitely need to invest in a red one for sure. If only that Jcrew blazer is not $188!
ReplyDeleteOn sale at JCrew now for $99 plus 30% off with OURTREAT promo! Saw it online and thought of you! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lana! (Is this Mason Lana?) I ordered it and it arrived today :)
