A Little Bit of Animal

In my pre-blogging days, I never wore anything that remotely resembled animal print.  Being a pretty conservative gal, it was one of those trends that I admired on others but could never pull off myself.  Last year, I took baby steps and made this DIY Bow Blouse using an animal reminiscent print.  This year, I've ventured into a leopard scarf and belt (yet to be photographed).  So yes, this gal has let loose... well, a little looser anyway.

My first instinct was to pair it with a black blazer but then I wondered if there was too much contrast with a bright red skirt.  I then tried a gold cardigan for a more muted look.  Which do you prefer?

Top:  DIY Bow Blouse (original post here)
Skirt:  LOFT Scuba A-Line Skirt, 2P (fitting room post here and see it on Bessie here), (buy here)
Shoes:  Gucci d'Orsay Pumps, Camel
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff Nikki, Resort Black w/ added H&M tassel
Blazer:  Banana Republic (old)
Cardigan:  Old Navy, Metallic Gold (old)

Any trends that took you a while to warm up to?

  1. Very nice! I like how you styled the skirt with a bow front blouse! True Lady Like Chic look, both the cardigan and the blazer looks fantastic. Thank you for mentioning me :)

  3. first of all, your DIY blouse is phenomenal!! love it so much. i have to agree with... i've been a very conservative girl throughout college, but i think i came out of my shell and began to experiment more with fashion after i started living in new york city. :) i love animal prints now... but only do one at a time, for example... i'll do shoes... but not wear another animal-print... like a scarf or a clutch with it. my rule is one at a time. :) both looks are great. i prefer the beige cardigan look during the day time... but would definitely wear the dark blazer for dinners... or night-time events. you style it very well. :)

hope you're having a great day!

  5. I prefer it with the black cardigan because it makes it more visually interesting- the contrast is very appropriate in this bright, holiday ready outfit. Btw, leopard is a neutral! Before you say I'm wrong think of at least one outfit where leopard is inappropriate. It works with pastels, metallics, darks, neutrals, brights, etc. so you're being conservative with your lovely leopard neutral :)

  6. If you like the gold cardigan better (though it washes you out :( ) change the bag. Black actually clashes too much with this look.

  7. If it's any consolation, I'm STILL warming up to leopard, haha. Slowly but surely... perhaps I'll add a leopard belt to my ever-growing stash this year :)

I do think the black blazer adds too much of a contrast with this animal print. I like how the soft yellows and not-completely-black dots look against the lighter cardi. I'll go out on a limb and say perhaps even try it with a yellow cardi? Or go without because I think the top would look great by itself with the red skirt.

  8. You know I am OBSESSED with animal print :) I think it looks best with the black blazer, because believe it or not it tones down the animal print. It is such a cute look!

  12. I need a change of career, maybe go take sewing classes instead. It's so awesome that you can just make clothes at your own whim. I use to sew patches together for my dolls when I was a kid but I was never able to get them onto the doll - that's why I scratched off seamstress from my list of careers ;)

  13. I think the black would be good if you had black pumps...definitely a bold look!

I prefer the red with the golds/neutrals, though!

You did an amazing job on this blouse! I can't wait to see your scarf and belt! :)

  18. Your red skirt is so cute! There's just something about the color red that really looks great on you! I can't decide which outfit is better. The neutral cardigan is the safest, but the black blazer still works since bold/contrasting colors look great this season! BTW, I'm excited you tried your first macaron too! Did you try the Taste of Belgium in Cincinnati? I love looking for bakeries, so I tried to look up some for you just now, hehe. Or have you tried this place: http://friedasdesserts.com
