Military + Floral OOTD

One of my resolutions for this year was to shop in my own closet and try different combinations.  I know  bloggers like Sydney from PetiteLittleGirlStylepint, and Kileen are also doing this (I thought I saw other bloggers with this resolution but I can't remember for some reason - leave me a note and I'll link you if I missed you).  So this is my first attempt at a remix - can military work with floral?

Top: Elle Floral Tunic, Kohl's, XS
Jacket: LOFT Twill Cropped Military Jacket, Olive Green, 0P
Jeans: Abercrombie Boot Cut, Girls, 14
Shoes: Ann Taylor Perfect Suede Pumps, Granite

What are your favorite trend combos?

Usually, I have a DIY posting for Sunday but I'm running behind!  I hope to have it ready tomorrow :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

  1. Florals and military match quite well, and I'm thinking leggings + boots with your top combo would make it stand out even more! =)

I haven't been keeping up with trends lately, but I'm enjoying playing with neutrals and textures lately.

  2. I like this! The jacket adds a great touch to the whole thing. : ) One of my resolutions was to stop spending on fast fashion and I think I'm doing okay so far. It's only the 10th day though. :P

that is a good resolution - to shop in your own closet (i should definitely do that!). that miltary jacket is way cute on you too.

  4. Military with floral is the ultimate masculine + feminine combo imo. I loved how you played with it in this outfit, plus the varying lengths of each item. Yay for shopping in our closets!

I've been trying to experiment more with mixing prints -- kind of hard because I have so many solids in my closet! But I like new challenges :)

  5. The military + floral combo looks great. I also like the idea of shopping in your own closet! I put most of my clothes in storage while I was pregnant and have yet to dig it all out and reorganize. It'll be a fun project to see what still fits and what finally fits now that I've got more meat on my bones. :) I'm 5'2" too with bigger feet (size 7) and mommy to a little one also! Wish I could sew like you!

  8. I love the military + floral look. I have tried that a few times as well. I think it's a nice way to feminize an otherwise androgynous/masculine look. Military jackets are one of my addictions, so OF COURSE I am loving this look from you.

I try to shop my closet as well. I usually use the J.Crew catalog and the Ann Taylor Lookbook and LOFT Looks We Love for inspiration. Of course I am guilty of going on buying binges at Savers. But lately I have been having an urge to sew more things, so I have some dresses and blouses on my To Do list to help me expand my wardrobe.

I always feel like if I sew my own, it doesn't count as shopping. I know that it technically is not true, but since sewing is my hobby I don't count it in my wardrobe spending.

  9. The combo looks great. I am doing good so far with my closet remix. I haven't purchased anything for 10 days. I discovered so much in my closet already. I really like this look. It's casual but yet chic and stylish. Great job!

  11. Stylepint - What a great idea! Next time I will try it with leggings - thanks!

Jessy - Thanks! I'm also doing well so far on the resolutions but like you said, it's only been 10 days, 355 to go LOL!

Ping - Thank you! I think I've finally figured out how to choose flattering jeans. I used to only look for something that fit at the waist/hips/tush but after looking at all my photos, I have to add thighs/knees to the list. The only jeans I have that really fit this criteria are my super old Abercrombie girl jeans.

Cee - Ooh I am so looking forward to future posts on mixing prints! I've seen many other people do it but I have yet to be brave enough to try.

Petite Mom - Yay for another fellow petite mom! How old is your little one? I'm excited to check out your blog right after this :)

Olyvia / April - Thanks so much! :)

Kerry - I love military too! The orderly rows of buttons really draw me in - also really love epaulets. I'm going to have get my hands on a J. Crew catalog - I think both you and Elle get inspiration there. I don't consider sewing as shopping either. All the supplies I buy for DIY is a very small fraction of the rest of my clothing expenditures and it is high time to do something about that!

Sydney - Thanks! Looking forward to more of your remixes and yay for going strong on your resolutions!

Kileen - Aha! I knew there was someone else doing the closet remixes, I'll add your link :)
