Oh Hunter Wellies, I have lusted after you for at least a year now and you are finally mine . Living in the midwest, one isn't privy to the fashions of major metro areas and though I had salivated at many pictures of Hunter Wellies in the past, I just wasn't sure if my area was really ready for rainboot-wearing little old me. Anyhoo, the other concern I had was about boot circumference. I have weirdly thick calves for a petite gal and when I measured, the circumference of my calves were identical to the boot so I was concerned that it'd be tight squeeze. Turns out this concern was unfounded and
the boots fit fine on my calves, they're even a little loose so that I can wear jeans or super thick socks if I wanted.
There is one fit problem though... The boot is a little too tall where the shaft hits at the bottom of my knee making it a little awkward in both the walking and appearance departments. Now I really LOVE these boots and for the steal I got them at, I am dog-goned determined to make these work. So...I ordered shoe lifts. I am 98% sure that if I could just elevate my heels just a teeny, tiny bit, it will be enough to bring it under my knee for a less awkward look.
Whilst I wait upon my shoe lifts, take a look at the pictures and tell me what YOU think. Keep 'em, return 'em, or see what happens when the shoe lifts arrive?
Have the shoe lifts arrived yet? Hunter boots look nice but are not an option for me (my legs are a bit shorter than yours). Right now they look just okay because I see what you mean about them hitting right at the knee...so I am very curious to see what magic the lifts may do. I've definitely purchased lifts on ebay before for boots that truncate my legs, but they turned out to be too big to fit inside my little shoes! How high are the lifts you purchased?
ReplyDeleteAs with almost all things I've been ordering from Ebay lately (false eyelashes, camera lens caps, etc.), the shoe lifts are coming from Asia :) I think they may get here by the end of this week. The lifts I ordered are supposed to be adjustable in height using 5 detachable levels. I'm hoping that they fit ok in the boot - the Hunters are rather roomy. Have you tried the short Hunters?

I don't know anything about shoe lifts, but I put some Sofsole insoles in mine to mitigate the roominess issue.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Hunter makes short boots too. May be an option.

ReplyDeleteOh I wish I had read this sooner! I just purchased a pair online and am anxiously waiting for delivery. The height was my biggest concern (being 5'2" also) but I wanted them so bad I took the leap. I do think they still look lovely on you so I'm sure I'll still love mine but how did the shoe lifts work? Were they still comfortable with them in? The orthopedic fit was one big draw to Hunter for me and I wouldn't want them to take away from that.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new Hunters! The shoe lifts were able to raise my knees just above the boot AND have been very comfortable. I walked miles around Manhattan in my Hunters and my feet felt fine. The only negative is that the top of the boot digs into the back of my knee when I walk leading to soreness there. I also have shorter Hunters that hit slightly above mid-calf and love those more than my tall ones. I hope this helps!

ReplyDeleteI read these posts after ordering a pair of original hunter boots and was worried they'd be too tall. I'm 5'2" and they just arrived today. They hit me about 1 inch below my knee which is good, also they're not as loose as i thought they would be around the ankle... not sure if there are other models out there but in the pictures I have seen, skinny girls seem to be swimming in them! i have always had legs that are WAY too skinny which has been a problem when finding boots. For some reason I tried these on and they are almost a perfect fit?? it's quite odd... anyway with the wellington socks they are pretty much snug around the opening which I like... good for winter! I love them! I also got a pair of gel lifts just in case and they're comfortable enough and at a little extra height.

Deletethis has been most interesting to read, as ive just recieved my first pair of hunters wellies yesterday at a bargain price of £40, with £5 p&p.
ReplyDeleteBut im 5'2 also and after wearing them round the house i am finding them a bit too tall and rubbing on my knee and behind it too.
I am considering sending them back for shorter ones but the cost of p&p for me to return them plus the new delivery cost is probably gonna add up quite a bit.
Dont know if i should just keep them and try these heal lifters you are on about as they are so comfy apart from the height.

Hi! I bought the lifts on eBay from a Chinese seller from searching "shoe lifts". Mine were clear, flexible plastic with 5 adjustable layers.
DeleteTry the Hunter children's boots. I'm 5'1" and the children's version fits me perfectly. Only difference is they have reflective patches on the back. But in deal with that in order to finally be able to wear these wonderful boots! Oh, the other thing is the children's boots are half the price!

You being 5'2 and barely fitting made me at 4' 11.2" (yes i count the. 2 :) made me realize that I should probably get the short ones. lol
ReplyDeleteHi Abby - I'm so glad you found this helpful! I got a shorter version, but with a wedge heel called the Kellen and felt like it was much more comfortable. The tall knocks into the back of my knee (even with the lifts) and makes it sore. Hope you like your new boots!
DeleteJust bought mine tall gloss hunters and same issue at 5'2. I read online they suggest to switch to children's. So cause I'm a 6 that means a 4 in children's .. My only issue is the white patches at back of boot. On the plus side they are $90 cheaper!!! Have them on hold now I just deciding.

DeleteHi, I am wondering if you could post an update before- after pic of your boots without/ with the shoe lifts. I am 5'2" (but surprisingly leggy for being petite!) and my Kamik Jennifer boots go a little below my knee. I see that Hunter is a tad taller, but still want to get some and then add shoe lifts if needed. I almost got children's hunter's but they are too short for me, and I am not a fan of the reflective pacthes :/
ReplyDeleteHi! From a picture perspective, there's little to no difference visually, but the FEEL is different. It helps raise my leg ever so slightly so that my knee clears the top of the boot. The back top of the boot still knocks in the back of my knee when walking though. I think if you're leggy, maybe it'll work! Is there a store nearby you can try them on at?
DeleteHi im also 5'2 n just about to order a pair of wellies for myself. M concerned that since your pair seems to hit the back of your knees, i most probably will have the same problem. Do you know what is the length of the shaft of boots? Cause my calves are just 14 n a half to 15 inches from my sole to my knees.

They hit my leg at the same point as they hit yours (and I am 5'5") so I went and ordered lifts thinking that would help. Then I came across your post so I am curious to see how it worked.
